The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) is the relief and development organization of the Christian Reformed Church. We respond, on your behalf, to the needs of people around the world who are suffering from poverty, hunger, disaster, and injustice. We also serve as your resource for volunteer opportunities, advocacy ideas, and educational materials about hunger, poverty, and justice.

What’s New

Tsunami ReliefThe overwhelming generosity of CRC members enabled CRWRC to make a major commitment to tsunami-ravaged communities in South Asia.

“Our size allowed us to work very closely with local communities and leaders to learn what the local needs were and structure our programs accordingly,” says Jacob Kramer, international relief team leader for CRWRC.

As a result, CRWRC built more than 1,129 temporary and 417 permanent homes in Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka. The building program is advancing well, and 1,247 families should be in new permanent homes by May 2007.

Hurricane ReliefHurricane Katrina brought another outpouring of generosity. As a result, CRWRC was able to respond in a variety of ways, including collecting and distributing emergency food, water, and clothing to evacuated families; coordinating resettlement for families who wanted to permanently settle in another area; providing grants to more than 30 badly affected communities; purchasing new equipment so that Disaster Response Services volunteers could work at additional sites in Mississippi and Louisiana; and sending more than 2,000 church/school volunteers and hundreds of CRWRC-DRS volunteers to the area to assess needs and rebuild homes. This response will continue for a number of years.

Global PovertyCRWRC continues to respond to the crisis of global poverty. CRWRC’s missionaries work in 30 countries around the world, where they partner with local churches and community organizations to help people overcome illiteracy, hunger, poor health, and poverty.

CRWRC helps leaders within these churches and organizations involve their own communities in identifying needs, developing solutions, and carrying out programs that will lead to lasting change.

All of these ministries are made possible through the prayer and financial support of the people of the Christian Reformed Church. CRWRC receives no ministry shares.
