Campus Minister Recognized for Mentoring Athletes

Our Shared MInistry

As a Christian Reformed campus minister at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., Mike Wissink spends much of his time praying with students and encouraging them in their spiritual walk.

But he recently received an award that recognized a less-common aspect of his work: mentoring football and basketball players.

Wissink, whose ministry receives financial support from Christian Reformed Home Missions, received the Pete Peterson Pride Award, an award given each year by the university to someone who has demonstrated loyalty and unselfish support of athletics at Ferris State.

In addition to his role as campus minister, Wissink has acted as team chaplain for the FSU men’s basketball team, as well as working with the women’s basketball and soccer teams and coaches.
