Celebr8, a singing octet from Covenant Christian Reformed Church, Winnepeg, Manitoba, raised more than $4,000 for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee through a benefit concert in December.

With so many recent natural disasters, “there was no question as to the benefit cause—disaster relief through CRWRC,” said Gerald Folkerts, one member of the octet. Donations came from ticket sales and from the sale of wood creations by local craftsman Len VerBeek.

“Celebr8 a Star” featured songs and instrumental music ranging from upbeat to contemplative, secular to Christian. The diverse local audience also enjoyed a short visual presentation of CRWRC’s work around the world.

The group was pleased with the evening’s success. “It was quite a warm gesture from Manitoba on a cold prairie night,” said Hilda Wyenberg, another Celebr8 member.
