Sandra McCracken has been making music in the public eye since 2000, but she has never sounded better than she does on her new album and DVD, Steadfast Live. McCracken has been rewriting hymns as part of the Indelible Grace project and on her own albums since her first release.

In 2015, with the release of Psalms, she changed her approach. Her concerts became more focused on bringing the audience along with her in a time of worship. She still sings her songs but the songs have a more corporate focus, they more clearly invite us to join her, either in voice or in spirit.

This transformation is seen in Steadfast Live. McCracken’s voice, piano, and guitar are front and center while her fine band stays in the background and gives her just the right amount of harmonic and rhythmic support. Gospel singer Liz Vice is also present, and her singing encourages McCracken to sing more forcefully than we’re used to hearing. Even if you already have most of the songs, Steadfast Live is well worth your time. (Towhee Records)
