The Name of God Is Mercyis the pope’s first book since becoming the Bishop of Rome and the 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. The publication coincides with “The Holy Year of Mercy,” which the pope declared to be from December 2015 to November 2016. Written in question-and-answer format, the pope was interviewed by journalist Andrea Tornielli, who captures not only his theological passion but also his humble and loving spirit.

The book draws its title from the many homilies in which Pope Francis focuses on the mercy of God. “The message of Jesus is mercy . . . It is the Lord’s strongest message,” he says. “God never tires of forgiving us. We tire of asking for forgiveness.” His gentle and wise words are accessible to the broad audience for which it is intended. (Random House)
