The St. Louis Cardinals have historical significance; just this past May, Sports Illustrated ran a feature article on the team. Several players and others in the organization are men of faith, a fact that did not make its way into that article. The book Intentional Walk by Rob Rains is about the history of the Cardinals and about the faith of their players.

It’s good to see a team reach its full potential, and the Cardinals did that in October 2011 when they won the World Series. Team manager Mike Matheny came on board during the spring of 2012. This year they are again in a position of strength, playing in the National League championship series.

Intentional Walk has 18 chapters, each on a different individual. The prologue includes a letter from Mike Matheny; it’s good for any parents of young athletes. (Thomas Nelson)
