A month after a tornado touched down in Wyoming and Kentwood, Mich., Ideal Park Christian Reformed Church helped host a picnic for the neighbors and personnel who helped in the aftermath of the storm.

On Saturday, August 2, Wyoming’s safety personnel  put together the picnic on Ideal Park CRC’s property. Guests included members from the church and World Renew Disaster Response volunteers. Fire and police department personnel served up food provided, in part, by Pepsi, Frito Lay, and the 54th Street Walmart.

“The purpose was to let the people know that they were not forgotten and that the city and and World Renew were still available to help anyone who was still experiencing problems,” said Ideal Park CRC’s pastor, Rev. Evan Heerema. He said it made sense to have the picnic at Ideal Park since the church had become a command post for a variety of relief organizations and had hosted community information meetings after the tornado.
