Lakeview Christian Reformed Church in Valentine, Neb., is a small church with a big heart and limited resources for outreach. So its classis (regional group of churches), Classis Iakota, pitched in with funding and people power to help the church run a two-week vacation Bible school that drew an amazing response.

One hundred and eighty children from Valentine and from four nearby Native American communities enjoyed an overnight campout, music, arts and crafts, a basketball camp, and more. Parents joined the children one evening for “family night.”

“We were hoping the kids would not only discover God’s gifts to them but start to develop those gifts,” said Robbi Jacobsen, who founded the program.

Many volunteers from other churches helped make the program a success. Jeff Bellach from First CRC in Manhattan, Mont., and Nate Tibbetts from First Baptist in Sioux Falls, S.D., coached basketball. First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Falls stocked the VBS store.
