Ninety-four musicians from Holland (Mich.) Christian High School traveled to New York City to play at Carnegie Hall, one of the world’s most famous stages.

The high school band was one of 14 chosen from across the United States to perform at Carnegie Hall’s Spring Instrumental Music Festival. The band played six pieces that included “The National Game March” by John Philip Sousa and “It Is Well with My Soul” by Philip Bliss.

“It was awesome—the kids played better than they ever have,” said band director Patricia Root.

While in New York, they also spent time with students at South Seneca Elementary School in Interlaken. Holland Christian has partnered with the school for several years, donating instruments and clothing for uniforms at South Seneca. The high school band students spent time with the younger students and held small marching band clinics.
