Former Calvin President Visits Synod

Delegates gave a standing ovation to Rev. William Spoelhof when he visited Synod 2008.

Spoelhof, who is 98 years old, was president of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., from 1951 to 1976. Synod president Rev. Joel Boot called him “a treasure.”

“We’re grateful to God for you and your very long and fruitful life,” he said.

Boot encouraged delegates to shake Spoelhof’s hand during the coffee break. “Thank him for his gift to Calvin College,” he said. “Remind him who you are because he should not have to remember you.”
