The Christian rock band Tree63 returns with its first full-length record in almost 11 years: Voyage. This recording reminds listeners of the South African trio’s heyday in the early 2000s. “I am no longer a young believer, singing about the excitement of a life-changing spiritual discovery,” said founder, vocalist, and guitarist John Ellis in a release. “I am many miles and victories and defeats down the road. The young man who wrote “Look What You’ve Done” in 1997 is now an adult with an adult’s set of experiences of what it means to walk in The Way. These 10 new songs on Voyage are notes on the journey, responses to conversations along the road, testaments of someone who survived the hazards of the journey and who is still walking.”

Ellis’ voice remains distinctive, and the instrumentation and overall sound are strong. Some song highlights include “Turn for Home,” celebrating the prodigal’s return; “How Much Longer,” awaiting heaven on earth; and “Seeker,” listening to God’s voice for salvation. Tree63 garnered international attention in 1999 and its self-titled recording on American label InPop Records in 2000 would earn them a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year. Later they released several radio singles including the No. 1 song, “Blessed Be Your Name.” It’s refreshing the boys are making a comeback and maybe more music in the future. (Next Music Group)
