Jonathan Cain, member of the popular 1970s and ’80s rock band Journey (which still tours widely today), offers the Christian solo project, “Only a Prayer Away.” The six-selection EP showcases Cain’s signature piano abilities and gives listeners a rock-and-roll feel.
Pastor Greg Laurie inspired the title cut when Cain watched him share the gospel on a film clip declaring “God is only a prayer away.” Cain explained the song in a release: “This song is for anyone who’s been tired, overwhelmed, or searching for hope. If you’ve been feeling crushed lately, carrying pain nobody sees, you need healing in your heart, your mind, your home—Jesus is closer than you think. He’s not ignoring you. He’s only a prayer away.” Other selections include “Amen to the Rescue,” based on relief efforts of a North Carolina flood where Cain saw the devastation first hand, and “I Will Praise You Home,” a song looking forward to experiencing heaven. The EP’s music centers on the Lord and provides encouragement and hope with an engaging style. (The Fuel Music)
