Ginny Owens’ beautiful voice has graced Christian music for over 20 years. Now the singer-songwriter returns with the EP, “Different Kind of Water,” her first new songs in three years. “Here, you’ll find songs about what we do with our endless restlessness and longings,” she shares in a release. “About how we train our hearts to hope, even in darkness. About forgiveness, brokenness, and what it means to live life to the fullest … what it means to dive into a different kind of water.” All five songs are worthy of a serious listen, but “God Will Meet You There” strikes as the crown jewel. It’s a poignant ballad about surrendering doubts and questions to the Lord: “When the weight of disappointment/Feels more than you can bear/He’s not put off by your anger/God will meet you there.” Other strong selections include the title cut that talks about longings in life that are only filled with the Lord, and “On Repeat” celebrates hope via joy and peace in the midst of suffering. This record is a sing-along standout. In usual Owens’ fashion, it’s upbeat and real. (Independent label, see ginnyowens.com.)
