In Every Generation is a gathering of artists and writers brought together by people at Belmont University in Nashville as part of a grant that they received to study the intersection of worship and intergenerational ministries. Belmont is at the end of Music Row in Nashville and has a long history of educating people in music and the music business.
So they gathered a number of people who know about worship and worship music to talk about intergenerational ministry and then to write some songs that can be used in worship. The result, an album called Friendship, Vol. 1, is an excellent example of what it could look like to create music that speaks to people from multiple generations.
The music itself features a variety of singers and a great band. There are many songs that can be used in worship or just for listening at home, with “The Language of Your Love” as a particular standout. Friendship, Vol. 1 is an excellent album, and at least one of the songs has already found its way into a worship service at my church. (In Every Generation)
