Heaven on My Mind

TobyMac belongs on Christian contemporary music’s Mount Rushmore. The hip-hop giant offers listeners a reflective tone on his 10th studio album, “Heaven on My Mind.” “Heaven on my Mind is this journey of going from total ashes to crawling to walking to standing up,” said Mac in a release. “It was me figuring out how to relate to God again, leading to all these questions, and ultimately something beautiful. I have a deeper relationship with God than I’ve ever had, because I walked through the valley with him, and I decided I trusted him.” Every one of the 12 tracks is stellar. Mac mixes his usual hip-hop with pop and rap sounds. The record features three singles: “God Did It,” “A Lil Church,” and “Nothing Sweeter.” In “God Did It,” Mac traces the lives of a man facing addiction and another person sitting in the front row of one of his concerts. “Bear Through It” talks about life’s hard circumstances with God’s presence and notes Jesus’ suffering on the cross.
