In this ode to a little bookstore, young children will be drawn into the unfolding nighttime ritual of closing up shop for the day: “Good night, little bookstore. / Time to close! / Good night, picture books, / face-out in rows. / Good night, door chime. Ding, ding, ding. / Good night, register. Ring, ring, ka-ching.”

New friends from faraway, familiar local people, forgotten eye glasses and a hat, the bookstore cat, unopened boxes filled with new books, bookshelves, and more are each bid good night. And as the bookstore’s front door is finally closed and locked, little bookstores near and far are wished a good night, and readers, wherever they are, are encouraged to “dream big.”

Author Amy Cherrix’s cheerful, rhyming verses and illustrator E. B. Goodale’s charming, detailed pictures capture the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of a little bookstore and the sense of community experienced by its patrons. (Candlewick)
