Singer-songwriter Ellie Holcomb might not spark bright lights outside the Christian music community, but it’s time this talented lady receives her due. Holcomb offers her third album and her first major label release with “Canyon.” It tackles everyday challenges with the hope of the gospel. “We all know what it’s like to have our hearts break and split wide open like a canyon, but there in the middle of our deepest pit of sorrow, there’s a river running through a current of God’s love ever-present, ever-flowing, ever-ready to carry us through our darkest nights and our deepest ache,” she said in a release. The music pops with shades of country, bluegrass, and folk. Holcomb’s voice is strong and inviting. She presents themes such as racial reconciliation in “Bridge,” mercies in the morning in “Brand New Day,” and a lullaby for her children with “Mine.” Holcomb’s recording is highly personal but certainly relatable. And its album cover possesses a breathtaking view of a canyon too. (Capitol Christian Music Group)
