Illustrator Paola Escobar’s exuberant, vivid portrayals of animals and nature scenes welcome young children (and adults) into the grandeur and glory of God’s love for his children and his invitation for his children to love each other. Based on the NIrV translation of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Love Is exudes the joy of sharing love and reveals how practising love has a cost.

Escobar masterfully portrays the aspects of love. “Love is patient”—a plant unfolds, leaf by leaf, as rain falls and moistens the soil. “It does not brag”—a small chameleon humbly views the vastness of the moon. “It does not dishonor other people”—various types of birds and numerous animals reside in one tree. “Love is not happy with evil”—animals and birds flee a raging forest fire. “Love never fails”—a vast tree in an Edenic scene offers hints of the hoped-for time when Jesus will return and make all things new and his love will fill all of the new heaven and new earth. Love Is would make an excellent gift for a child for any occasion. (Zonderkidz)
