The Wonder That Is You by Glenys Nellist is a love letter of a book, figuratively and—dedicated to the author’s firstborn son—actually. From the first page, Nellist captures the overwhelmingly powerful feeling of experiencing parental love: “It felt as if the world stood still/The day my dream came true,/And all creation paused to see the wonder that is you.”
Nellist’s lyrical and subtly biblical poetry is perfectly matched by Aurelie Blanz’s gorgeous and painterly illustrations. “I thought I heard the trees clap hands/And as their leaves unfurled,/They whispered softly in the breeze, welcome to our world.” Lush and bursting with color, they feature flowers, butterflies, birds, and animals, as well as mothers and infants of every race.
This lovely and touching picture book is a perfect gift for first-time parents and it would be a meaningful present for parents to give a child of any age. (Zonderkidz)
