At least 38 congregations have begun or completed a process of disaffiliation from the CRC since Synod 2024 required congregations to repent from opposing the church’s confessional definition of “unchastity” (that it includes same-sex sexual relationships) or disaffiliate. Not every disaffiliation is directly related to that synodical decision, but here are the regional groups of churches facing a loss and the number of congregations in each one. Such realities may lead to a restructuring of classes. A recommendation that Synod 2026 appoint a task force to that effort was part of a Sept. 4 cost reduction report for the Council of Delegates.

Data comes from the received agendas and minutes of 2025 classis meetings as of Sept. 1, 2025. *Note: after that date, The Banner was made aware of two more disaffiliating churches from Classis Alberta North, for a total of three from that classis and 40 disaffiliating or disaffiliated churches denomination-wide.
