It has been 13 years since Amy Grant has released new music. These have been eventful years for the singer and songwriter who became a household name when her fourth album, Age to Age, was released 44 years ago and became one of the biggest sellers in the still-young Christian music industry. Grant was 22 at the time.

But heart surgery followed by a bicycle accident, which gave her a head injury that required her to re-learn a number of things, including how to sing and play guitar, has had a significant impact on Grant.

As she came to terms with these changes in her life, some new songs emerged that have resulted in The Me that Remains, her best album in four decades. Grant’s relaxed vocal style fits these songs about longing and loss beautifully. The title track, in which she reflects on who she is now, is especially beautifully written and performed, but the album is full of songs that make the listener want to pay attention. Listening to The Me that Remains is like reconnecting with an old friend and discovering they are older, wiser, a bit mellower, but still the same person we liked when we were younger.
