Mike Flynt's college football career ended abruptly when he was booted from the team and expelled from school for a series of fights during his senior season. The Senior charts the true story of how Flynt (played by “The Commish,” Michael Chiklis) received an opportunity to play in a college football game again 37 years later, becoming the oldest player ever in a college game.
Flynt's desire to right the wrongs of his past life came about after he attended a football reunion at his former school, Sul Ross University in football-crazy Texas. At age 59, he was way too old, wasn’t he? His family and current football coach thought he wasn’t thinking straight when he wanted to try out for the team. Through incredible grit and determination, Flynt made the team and developed a bond with three of the much younger players. Another teammate whose friend had been cut showed disdain and “cheap” shot him on the practice field, resulting in a serious injury. But despite his critics and friends alike fearing permanent paralysis if he played again, Flynt refused to quit. He suited up for the final season game still hoping for a playing opportunity. The Senior is a story of redemption that shows how people can grow and change. Flynt played not for glory, but for the teammates he lost and the family he fractured. It’s a film brimming with hope and the possibility of second chances. (Angel Studios)
