In the rom-com Solo Mio, Matt Taylor (Kevin James of The King of Queens fame) plans a special wedding for himself and his fiancée Heather (Julie Ann Emery) in Rome, Italy. The problem: Heather never appears for the ceremony but leaves her dressing room for parts unknown. When Matt goes looking for her, he discovers a note of regret: It’s over before it began.
Obviously shocked and stunned, Matt tries to get his money back for the honeymoon package, but the desk clerk declines the request.
The movie follows Matt and two other honeymooning couples around Italy. The couples try cheering him up by offering advice, but they need marriage counseling themselves. Matt continues grieving his loss and meets a local woman at a party who has had too much alcohol. He quickly leaves the scene but later meets up with the woman again—when she punches him in the face. Love interests—and comedy—abound as Matt tries to pick up the pieces.
Kevin James does a masterful acting job in the movie, and Alyson Hannigan (Meghan) (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother) provides a solid performance, too. The movie offers an uplifting exploration of heartbreak and unexpected joy amid beautiful scenery and festive music. Also starring Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in The Chosen. (Rated PG, Angel Studios)
