For many years, Christian teachers in Christian and public schools have thought about how to integrate their faith into their teaching. Calvin University education professor David Smith has been one of the leading voices in that conversation, and his latest book, Everyday Christian Teaching, is a significant addition to the field. Written as a follow-up to his 2018 book, On Christian Teaching, Everyday Christian Teaching applies many of the ideas in the former book and explains how they actually play out in a classroom.

Smith’s clear writing, his years of experience as a teacher, and his wide knowledge of current and historic texts guides us to thinking about how faith connects to instruction in ways that can help teachers make changes to their daily lesson plans that reflect their faith.

Every chapter contains examples that illustrate how assignments can be given, how we read or listen, and even how what we do as we begin a new year can reflect a Christian faith beyond citing a Scripture passage. Everyday Christian Teaching should be read and discussed by Christian teachers in Christian and public schools. It is an outstanding resource for novice and veteran teachers. (Eerdmans)
