Kim Walker-Smith’s powerful and rich voice grabs one's attention quickly on her fifth solo album, “Wild Heart.” The Jesus Culture band member’s raw, vulnerable lyrics are also appealing. “This new album is a strong declaration of freedom and who God is,” she said in a release. “On the other side of a desert season is growth, deeper connection to Jesus, and a new authority. In the desert, all my doubts and questions came to the surface. I wondered if God was truly as good and as faithful as he says. I asked if he could truly bring the freedom I longed for and the healing I needed. He met me in that place and not only proved his faithfulness, but taught me in greater measure who he is." Highlights include the title track, “Wild Heart,” which displays the love of the Father toward the prodigal, and “Protector,” a stirring anthem affirming who God is and his promise never to leave or forsake us. Recorded at the Cascade Theater in California, the location had a special meaning for Walker-Smith. She recorded a previous album there and was also joined in marriage there on another occasion. This is a lengthy record (almost 79 minutes), but sometimes a marathon is more satisfying than a sprint. (Capitol Christian Music Group)
