Humorist Phil Callaway, host of the international radio show Laugh Again, shares hilarious, poignant, tearful, and biblically insightful stories for people who tell him “exactly when the joy left, then ask if it can ever return. My answer is yes, of course.”

As a child, Callaway loved to laugh and make others laugh, especially his mother who had been abused and suffered from depression. But, to his chagrin, he “discovered firsthand that as great a gift as laughter is, the more we age, the more elusive it becomes.”

With admirable vulnerability and refreshing honesty, Calloway relates personal events that for a time knocked the laughter out of his life—the struggles his parents endured, the deaths of five family members in a year, marital struggles, relational disappointments, and job-related stress. He attributes his ability to keep going and rediscover laughter time and time again to his relationship with Jesus—“For the believer, there is no greater reason for joy. There is no better reason to laugh like a kid again.”

The father of three adult children and eight grandchildren, Callaway has much life experience to draw from. Emphasizing “living without regret and leaving footsteps worth following,” Callaway covers varied topics—dating, marriage, pregnancy, birth, social media, sexual temptation, being a grandparent, gardening, and more—with laugh-out-loud humor and a soft, compassionate touch. Each chapter is prefaced with a great joke.

Laugh Like a Kid Again is sure to entertain and delight, as well as prod readers to reflect on the joy Jesus gives his children, no matter the circumstances they face. (Harvest House Publishers)
