Evensong is an album for such a time as this. The worries that come with dealing with a pandemic and with a year of political divisiveness can weigh heavily on us. What we often find ourselves in need of is a way to be calm in the midst of the storm, a way to be still and know that God is God and that we continue to be in his care. This album does just that.

Keith and Kristyn Getty continue to release albums of carefully written and performed worship music. On Evensong: Hymns and Lullabies at the Close of Day they turn their attention to songs of comfort and of rest. Here you will find beautiful and gentle arrangements of traditional hymns like “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” new performances of original songs that have been previously released like “Consider the Stars” or “My Heart is Filled with Thankfulness,” as well as songs that are new to this album.

A highlight is “Softly and Tenderly,” in which the Gettys are joined by guests, including Vince Gill. Andrew Peterson’s recent song, “Is He Worthy?” featuring an appearance by the Getty’s children is stirring and memorable. Evensong is exactly the right sort of music for any time we need a reminder of God’s constant presence in our lives. (Getty Music Label)
