For author and illustrator John Hendrix, “creating an illustrated book about the life of Christ is both a frightening challenge and a dream come true.” As a Christ-follower, Hendrix longs to share his love for his Savior, especially by retelling the “old, old story”—the miracles, death, and resurrection of Jesus—in a fresh way.

Hendrix’s retelling of the gospel narrative is his version of the daily lives and experiences of Jesus and the people who encountered him—the twelve disciples, the crowds, the paralyzed man brought to  Jesus by his friends, and a healed leper. In some cases, the words of Jesus and the disciples aren’t direct quotations from the Bible, but they are true to the biblical text.

In this picture book for young children, culturally sensitive illustrations, including varied, lively hand-lettering, capture Jesus’ dynamic, life-altering power. Ages 6 and up. (Abrams Books for Young Readers)
