The Office of Social Justice and Hunger Action (OSJHA) responds to God’s call to let justice flow like a river in our personal and communal lives as well as in the structures of our societies.
What’s New
In June 2005 the OSJHA brought 30 people from Christian Reformed churches, agencies, and associated colleges to Washington, D.C., to participate in One Table, Many Voices: A Mobilization to Overcome Hunger and Poverty. Through worship, plenary sessions, and workshops participants left with a renewed commitment to overcome poverty, a new network of friends, and energy and ideas for the work ahead.
We continue to build and organize social-justice networks in CRC communities through our monthly e-newsletter, the Advocate, and our social-justice website, www.crcjustice.org, which offers tools, resources, action ideas, worship aids, and information on issues like hunger, poverty, refugees and more.
We’ve also been working hard to promote and support the Micah Challenge, a global Christian movement that aims to deepen our own engagement for and with the poor and to urge our leaders to live up to their commitments to meet the poverty-fighting Millennium Development Goals. Lots of exciting work is happening around the Micah Challenge and other anti-poverty coalitions like the ONE Campaign and Make Poverty History.
In the coming months we will continue to work collaboratively on the Micah Challenge and other social-justice issues with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and organizations such as Bread for the World and KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives.
