Synod 2006 Ratifies Recent Appointees
by
Rev. Bob De Moor
Synod 2006 ratified the appointments of three denominational leaders who were appointed by the CRC’s Board of Trustees in the past year.
Rev. Robert C. Heerspink, director of the Back to God Hour, told delegates, “I don’t know what the Back to God Hour will be doing in media 10 years from now because those haven’t even been invented yet. But you can be sure we’ll be there.”
Ida Kaastra Mutoigo, new director for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee-Canada, challenged delegates: “Whose voice is going to be heard this week at synod, when you go home, and in the months ahead—men in high positions or women in low positions? Those are the people whose voice I want to represent.”
Also ratified was the appointment of Rev. Bruce Adema as director of Canadian ministries. For more information on these appointments, see the December 2005 and April 2006 Banners.
Synod also gratefully acknowledged Rev. James Vanderlaan’s 35 years of service to the denomination, including 14 years as director of Disability Concerns. Vanderlaan, who is retiring, will be replaced by Rev. Mark Stephenson.
